Ingredients
For the Chutney
- Fresh grated coconut – 1 cup
- Roasted chana dal – 2 tablespoons
- Green chillies – 1 to 2
- Ginger – ½ inch piece
- Tamarind – small marble-sized piece
- Salt – to taste
- Water – approximately ¼ cup
For Tempering
- Oil – 1 teaspoon
- Mustard seeds – ½ teaspoon
- Urad dal – ½ teaspoon
- Curry leaves – few
- Dry red chilli – 1 (optional)

Method
- Prepare all ingredients and roughly chop green chillies and ginger.
- Add coconut, roasted chana dal, green chillies, ginger, tamarind, and salt into the small chutney jar.
- Add water gradually and grind using pulse mode initially, followed by short continuous cycles.
- Scrape the sides once and grind again until the chutney reaches a smooth yet slightly textured consistency.
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves, and dry red chilli. Allow them to splutter.
- Pour the tempering over the chutney and mix gently.

Serving Suggestions
Serve with idli, dosa, vada, or pongal.
Best consumed fresh and can be refrigerated for up to 24 hours.
